Oneida County
Oneida County is in the central portion of New York State, east of Syracuse, and west of Albany. Oneida Lake is on the northwestern corner of the county, and the Adirondack Park is on the northeast. Part of the Tug Hill Plateau is in the northern part of the county.
The Oneida County Economic Development and Growth Enterprise, (EDGE) and the Griffiss Industrial Park, (GLDC) were formed. The Air Force Information Directorate, (Rome Labs) remains at the Griffiss site and serves as an attraction to high technology corporations. Major corporations such as Conmed, Special Metals, Oneida Ltd., Utica National Insurance Group, PAR Technology, Revere Copper and Brass, Metropolitan Insurance Company, Fleet Bank and others serve to provide the needed economic diversity that government leaders indicate is the key to prosperity in Oneida County.
As of the census[10] of 2000, there were 235,469 people, 90,496 households, and 59,184 families residing in the county. The population density was 194 people per square mile (75/km²). There were 102,803 housing units at an average density of 85 per square mile (33/km²).
